About Us

The Origins of Q

Q was first conceived by MK as a bespoke piece for Redline Design, a studio dedicated to high-end, solid wood furniture handcrafted in Toronto and Copenhagen. Originally envisioned in solid timber, its unique versatility inspired the modular, flat-pack edition you see here.

The Vision

Format Q was born from a desire to simplify the relationship between people and the objects they live with. We believe that good design shouldn’t be a luxury—it should be an invitation. By utilizing the honest, structural beauty of birch and pine plywood, we’ve created a system that is as much about the process of making as it is about the final form.

The Designer

Format Q is led by MK, a designer and maker whose work is rooted in a deep respect for natural materials and precision craftsmanship.

Before launching Format Q, MK founded Redline Design (redlinedesign.ca), a high-end studio specializing in bespoke, luxury solid wood furniture. While Redline continues to push the boundaries of collectible design and complex joinery, Format Q represents a different side of the same philosophy: making thoughtful, modular design accessible for every home.

Our DNA

Every piece we create is a balance of utility and play. Whether you are using the "Q" as a single stool, a side table, or stacking them to create a soaring bookshelf, the intent remains the same: honesty. We don't hide our materials behind paint or plastic stains. From our exposed plywood edges to our natural wax finishes, we celebrate the raw character of the wood. Format Q isn't just furniture; it’s a modular toolkit for your living space.
